Happy New Years! Have a Song!

Our friend Norman Williamson is the sax player in this band, Amasa Hines. We didn't shoot the video, but it's a great live performance by them on 12/29/11. Enjoy!

DIY Hex Nut Bracelets

Justin and I were at Home Depot this week buying boring household things like paint and screws when I looked up and found myself staring at a wall of nuts and washers. There were nuts and washers in all sizes, weights and counts and while staring at this wall of nuts and washers I was reminded of a diy tutorial I had once pinned from Honestly...WTF which called for just thing things at which I found myself staring! I grabbed a pack of 50 hex nuts, ran to Hobby Lobby for embroidery thread and before I knew it I had braided myself three diy hex nut bracelets. And while I probably wouldn't don all three at the same time, I do think they would make a lovely, fun addition to any arm party!

Prometheus Trailer

I'm super stoked about Ridley Scott's new film Prometheus.  Not only is it his return to science fiction, it's also a prequel to his classic film Alien (one of my all time favorite films).  Here's the trailer below.  Tell me what you think!

Are these guys the distress signal that the Nostromo picks up in Alien? Makes you wonder?

You've Been Naughty!

And right before Christmas too! Let me explain. I found myself checking the blog's stats this morning and when I clicked to take a look at our traffic sources I found something rather fluster-inducing in the list of search terms that brought viewers to our blog. I'll just let you see for yourself. Here's the list:
  1. antonio melani boots
  2. bane's face
  3. black hole 3.4 billion years ago
  4. filmy s tracy jordan
  5. happy valentines day redhead
  6. henry cavill nude
  7. diy harry potter wine goblet
  8. have you been there blog

Vito

We have a new addition to the family! We went to PetSmart today to get a bed for Keela, but instead brought her home a little brother. He's a 9-week-old whippet/wire-haired terrier mix from the Humane Society and his name is {Don} Vito {Corleone}.

Bokeh, Bokeh, Bokeh...

If you're on pinterest, I bet you've seen this image attached to this tutorial for creating bokeh. It seemed like Christmas was the perfect time to try it out, what with the lights everywhere and everything. I made a star and here are a couple of my "before the bokeh" and "after the bokeh" photos.

And here are a couple of just "after the bokeh" photos that I thought were fun!

Game of Thrones is getting even more awards love.

You might wonder why Mad Men isn't on this list, but that's because 2011 saw no new episodes.  The show returns next month.  Also interesting is the Best Ensemble in a Feature Film category with a nomination for the comedy Bridesmaids.

True or False?

From a young age I've often been asked about my eyelashes {though why anyone would believe my mother had put false eyelashes on a four-year-old is beyond me.} And while I will admit that I was blessed in that department {what I lack in leg length I make up for in eyelashes}, I can definitely share some secrets that will help you max out your lashes' potential. Here's what I do...

1. Start out with a good primer. I use Lancome CILS BOOSTER XL Super-Enhancing Mascara Base.
2. Apply a couple of coats of a mascara with a stiffer, plastic applicator to ensure they don't get clumpy. For this step, I use CoverGirl lash blast volume.
3. Last, after step two has had a minute to dry {but not too dry} apply a couple of coats of a mascara with a traditional bristle applicator for volume. I love L'Oreal Voluminous for this.

That's it! Good luck, and if you try the Mallory Method, let me know! I'd love to see your results!
