Grammy Favs and Flops

Is it just me (Mallory) or did the 2011 Grammys seem like an excuse to have one big concert with every musical genre represented? The producers seemed to be a bit more concerned with entertaining the crowd than awarding them. Perhaps this was an elaborate ruse to distract the viewers from their confusion about what each award actually is. I know David Letterman and I can't be the only two who are confused about the difference between record of the year and song of the year (check out #4 on his Grammys Top 10 list). Regardless, the Grammys are always a spectacle and always lots of fun. Here are a few of the moments that stood out to me.

Night's Biggest Shocker

Arcade Fire wins album of the year? Who are they, again? Yeah, I don't know either. Kudos to them though for their impromptu celebratory performance. (Justin has heard of them though)

Now I'm not saying Esperanza Spalding isn't a talented musician. I'm just saying when she won best new artist... Justin Beiber looked shocked.

Ha! Just kidding! Lady Gaga's entrance was way weird, right?

Isn't Jennifer Lopez's just the quintessential Grammys dress? Suuuuuuper short and sparkly? She still works it though!

Favorite Performance of the Night

The combined set performed by Bruno Mars, BoB and Janelle Monae was a total hit and a bit unexpected.

British rockers Muse commanded the stage with their performance of "Uprising." I was not disappointed to see them take home the best rock album award.

How could you not smile while watching Ceelo's, Gwyneth Paltrow's and their muppet-like "backup singers'" colorful (and featherful!) rendition of "The Song Otherwise Known as Forget You" ?

Katy Perry's tribute to Valentine's day- and to her Valentine, Russell Brand- was just as fun and girly as we'd expect from this California Girl.

Scariest Performance
Now where did I put that photo of Lady Gaga...

Oh yes, there she is. Ok, the appearance in the egg (or "womb-thing" as I also heard it referred to) was one thing, but she also performed in what looked like a skin skirt with matching trenchcoat?

Most Redundant Winners

Lady Antebellum won record of the year, song of the year and best country song. Aren't all three of those the same thing? Is there something I'm missing here?
