I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry

Jesse James, Lauren Arnold, Henry Thomas, Mallory O'Neal
This weekend we had a super special opportunity to see a private test screening of director Harry Thomason's latest flick, The Last Ride.  It's an interesting film that takes place over the course of the last three days of the life of Hank Williams Sr.  played by Henry Thomas (E.T. and Suicide Kings). This isn't your normal music bio-pic a la Walk the Line or Ray. Instead of telling the story of Williams' entire life it  focuses on just the last three days.  It is more of a coming of age story of the other main character in the film, Silas played by Jesse James, and how three short days with Hank Williams transform Silas from an insecure boy with no focus for his life into a confident, determined man.  Silas is hired to drive Williams to perform a New Years Eve show nearly 800 miles away.

Much like how The Lord of the Rings is more about Sam becoming a man and less about Frodo, The Last Ride shows Silas learning a lot about life and love from Hank Williams.  Williams may not teach the type of lessons one would learn in Sunday School, but they're enough for Silas to mature quickly.  We don't want to give too much away, but we think everyone in the central Arkansas area should make an effort to get out to the opening night of the Little Rock Film Festival to see this treat of a film AND everyone else when the film releases (likely in September!).  The film features Big Bang Theory's Kaley Cuoco as well as Ray McKinnon and former presidential contender and Law & Order star Fred Thompson.  It was shot mostly in and around Central Arkansas and if you look closely you might catch Mallory in a scene.
