Not To Be a Gossip, But...

This is Justin.  One of my favorite movies of all time is Ridley Scott's Alien .  It came out in 1979 as part of the space movie craze that followed the first Star Wars but as those who have seen it know it's not a space western. It's a haunted house film set in the confines of a space ship piloted by future truckers.  It has one of the best tag lines of any movie ever, "In space no one can hear you scream."  Makes you want to go try it, huh? Anyway, Alien spawned an awesome sequel Aliens (directed by James Cameron) followed by two so-so sequels (I argue that they're better than most sequels that come out today and each one has a very distinct look while Mallory argues that I just like all movies).  Then the mid 2000s came around and Fox realized they hadn't quite squeezed everything they could from the idea and decided to make the Alien Versus Predator franchise. This turned out to be a not so good idea- even though it was pretty neat in Predator 2 when Danny Glover saw the Alien skulls on the Predator's ship...

So even though it seemed like a bad idea I was really excited when I heard that Ridley Scott had finally come back to the franchise thanks for Fox's realizing those other two were horrible not that great. It was then announced that he'd direct two PREQUELS to the franchise and they'd be written by Damon Lindelof one of the executive producers of LOST.  Those prequels would have something to do with that giant creature's skeleton in the photo above (seen in only one scene of the original film but it's ship sent out the distress signal that brought the space truckers to the planet he was dead on).

Scott and Lindelof, in their creative process, wound up  coming up with a story that wasn't a prequel to the film series, but something all together different and it is to be called Prometheus. What? It has nothing to do with Alien after all?  That's okay, a cool original science fiction produced on a big budget by a studio and made by Ridley Scott, I can get behind that idea.  Now most of everything I've already said has been known for at least three months.

Now there's a rumor that's come out.  You remember that giant skeleton in the picture above?  Yeah, the rumor is that whatever that thing was before it died has something to do with Prometheus's plot.  But wait, they said it wasn't a prequel?  If this is true is this just Damon Lindelof expanding the LOST mythology to include a sideways reality to Alien? Probably not.  The other big rumor to go with this, is that it's going to be a giant 8 foot tall animatronic creature effect made under the supervision of the artist H.R. Giger. Giger was the designer of the original Alien used in all the movies.  Not only that but there are going to be Aliens in the movie!  Now this for sure sounds like a prequel, and it's one I'm willing to get behind.  If it's true.  Check out more at slashfilm.com.
