A Real Life Batman

Move over Bruce Wayne, the real deal is here. Below is a video of Jeb Corliss wingsuit flying, which turns out to be pretty much exactly what is sounds like. He puts on a special suit and flies. On the wind. And while wingsuits aren't anything new, special cameras that record you in the act, from your perspective, are. We honestly didn't believe we could be looking at what we were looking at the first time we watched. This stuff is nuts.

Now the only question is, will he use his power for good or for evil?

Currently Obsessed

With Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest you'd think that all the ways there are to keep up with someone have been discovered by now. Well, not quite. CurrentlyObsessed.me is another to add to the list.

It's a great website where you can stalk your favorite fashion and lifestyle bloggers' current obsessions and I'm proud to say I'm a part of it. While I really enjoy sharing all the things I just can't get enough of,  I've been using it to do some serious stalking myself. I love seeing what Blair over at Atlantic-Pacific is obsessing over or what Jane at Sea of Shoes has got her eye on

I could keep talking about how great it is, or I could just let you click over and see for yourself. You'll thank me for this one.

Or you'll hate me for giving you another way to lose hours in front of the computer. But either way, don't forget to stalk me!

Awesome NEW Avengers Poster

Tomorrow at 11 am Central Time a new trailer for Marvel's The Avengers will be coming out.  As the excitement for the film grows, here's the new poster, which is pretty awesome looking, for the Superhero film.  Who knows if director Joss Whedon has pulled off an incredible feat, but we'll find out soon enough on May 4th, 2012 (that's just two months away! Remember how excited you were at the end of Iron Man when Samuel L Jackson showed up and said, "The Avengers Initiative"?).

Check out the poster below!

Emma Stone for President!

We will, of course, have a post recounting tonight's winners but first {and foremost, if you ask me- Mallory} let's go over the fashion. My top three favs were:

3. Jessica Chastain in Alexander McQueen... I guess. To be honest, I wasn't overly impressed with tonight's red carpet as a whole. Picking a third favorite wasn't easy, it's just that "Top 3" has such a better ring to it than "My Two Favorites." I usually LOVE me some McQueen, and Jessica is a gorgeous girl but this combo just wasn't a home run for me. Thoughts?

2. I'm going to let you in on a little secret. I'm jacket poor. Have been since high school. I love a good jacket. And when you take a good jacket, make it full length, remove the sleeves and slap Tom Ford's name on it, it becomes a red-carpet-worthy cape. Gwyneth Paltrow was the lucky lady who got to sport this simple yet statement-making cape/dress duo by Tom Ford, and ALL the ladies on E! let out a collective gasp when she first showed up. I have a feeling it's one that will be talked about for years to come.

3. Coral, ruffles, peplum, trains! Swoon! I would play fairy-princess-dress-up with Michelle Williams any day after seeing her in this Louis Vuitton. That's really all there is to say about this one. She made an excellent choice.

I'm really curious to know what other people thought about this. Everyone I follow on twitter couldn't get over Glenn Close in her green Zac Posen. Any favorites I missed?

P.S. How well did Emma Stone nail that Visual Effects presentation with Ben Stiller? Who knew he could, not only share, but completely give up the comedic limelight? I say she hosts next year!

On Essentials

I've been girly for as long as I can remember. I love the indulgent little treats that only the ladies can enjoy. But with so many products out there it's hard to know when a product is legit and when you're just the victim to some excellent marketing. Lucky for us, places like sephora.com offer consumer reviews on the goods. In that vein, I thought I'd offer up a little word-of-mouth promotion of my own. These are all products that I have, or plan to, put on the repeat purchase list.
1. Smashbox Photo Set Finishing Powder I'm not a big fan of powder. I love foundation for the coverage and "dewiness" it provides, but the minute I set it with powder, the look is ruined. I look like I'm wearing tons of makeup and the texture of my {dry} skin immediately changes. However if I skip it  my face feels "wet" all day and makeup rubs off on clothes, my hands, sunglasses, et. all. The solution? This magic powder from Smashbox. It's super light, but sets my look perfectly without adding weight to my look. The texture is like no other powder I've used. It seems to disappear onto my skin while sealing the foundation.

2. Benefit Sun Beam This is where the "dewiness" I referred to comes from. I mix a few drops of this little potion into my liquid foundation to add a bit of radiance. Sometimes, if I'm feeling particularly glowy I'll dap a few drops onto my temples and cheekbones as well. And if you're not feeling the extreme bronze, this one comes in High Beam, a pinky shimmer, and Moon Beam, a golden glow.

3. Revlon ColorBurst Lip Butter This is not the first appearance this product has made on Have You Been There.com. Dry lips are not just a wintertime thing for me. I've always felt like I didn't deserve a pretty pout, that my fate was sealed. I would deal with washed-out, cracked lips forever. Revlon's lip butter delivers color and moisture in one swoop. Ah-mazing.

4. Clarisonic Skincare Brush A few years ago I went through a period of extreme stress. It took a toll emotionally and physically. It made me exhausted, moody, and maybe worst of all acne-prone {because it only increased the stress}. After a round of accutane, the problem was taken care of, but the   evidence was left behind in the form of teeny scars. My aunt saved the day on Christmas when I opened a present to find this little gem inside. I honestly don't know how the thing works, but it's like a facial in the palm of your hand. It's seriously worked wonders in front of my eyes.

5. Seche Vite Fast Dry Top Coat I can't be the only one who has spent precious time procuring a lovely home-made manicure, spent hours not touching anything only to go to bed and wake up with sheet marks on my nails. I've tried high-end, low-end, "quick dry," "hard dry" and everything else out there as far as top coats go. I read about Seche Vite on a couple of nail blogs {yes, sometimes I read nail blogs} but had never heard of it so I didn't give it much thought. I came across it in person the other day and felt compelled. I was shocked at how quick and well it worked. I painted my nails IN THE LOBBY OF A MOVIE THEATER and had as good a mani as if I had gone to a salon.

Vegetable Tortellini Soup

One of my go-to recipes lately has been this Vegetable Tortellini Soup. I can't get enough of it. It's perfect for this time of year when it's still chilly {and rainy} but you know swimsuit season is not far away. It's both comforting and healthy and suuuper easy and quick to make. I make a double batch and we eat on it for a couple of days. It's also really versatile for the pickies like me. For example, I use less tomato {blech!} and more noodles {yeah!} and it still comes out perfect. And while I've been sticking to the original vegetarian recipe, you could easily adapt it for meat eaters, if you must, by subbing out the veggie broth and cheese tortellini for chicken stock and beef ravioli. I love that such simple, real ingredients can turn into something so tasty and satisfying... and that I don't feel guilty if I go back for seconds!

The Science of Oscar Dressing

Check out this fun infographic the good people over at Dish Network made to educate us on some leading ladies' choices of Oscar apparel. They did their homework on Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress nominees' lovely ensembles of the past two decades. These are some good things to remember in case we ever find ourselves nominated...

P.S. My all time favorite is still Michelle Williams in that aureate Vera Wang from '06!

Just Hear Those Sleigh Bells Jingalin'

via
I'm thrilled to see that people are taking more of an interest in Sleigh Bells lately thanks to a recent appearance on SNL. I've been a fan of theirs for a while now thanks to this teaser trailer for an indie comedy which featured their song, "Kids." The song sets the tone for the film perfectly and I've been hooked ever since.

You may remember from this post that I'm a bit picky when it comes to music, but this duo has such a unique take on pop rock that you can't help but stop and listen. I once heard them described as "sassy." Sassy rock? Yes, please. Their first album, Treats, has been out for a while now and while I haven't had a chance to listen much to their newest release, Reign of Terror, it's definitely on my to-do list. Here's one of my favorites from Treats.

Rainy Day Blues {Hues}

Pants- Limited {old}, Cardigan- Zara {similar here}, Tee- Target, Earrings- Angel Court, Necklace- Angel Court
It doesn't take much for me to want to stay in bed all day, and when it's cold and rainy {like it was this week} I need something EXTRA special to make my feet his the floor. The other day, that something extra special was these earrings. I hadn't had a chance to wear them yet and {knowing that it was a rainy day and my hair would not cooperate no matter what I did} I knotted my hair into a fishtail braid to really let them shine. I kept everything else simple and comfy- continuing the touches of blue on my feet as well.

Valentine's Date: Part IV

This Valentine's Date ensemble idea was inspired by Ms. Courtney whose favorite type of date for Valentine's is a simple, romantic picnic. While I've never participated in a picnic Valentine's before I can absolutely see the appeal of a low key, fun date.

The Breakup

The bad news is: my work has outlawed jeans. The good news {for me, anyway} is: I've had to get a bit more creative with my wardrobe because of it. I was starting to get into a serious work-style rut, putting far too much weight on the denim crutch. However, thanks to a new regional manager, I have reopened my eyes to the possibilities dresses, skirts and trousers can afford. Denim, the puppy love we shared was great but I think we should take a cue from Ross and Rachel and try a break.
