Hi, Contrast!
Fall is officially here and between work, wedding planning, house decorating and film festival things my money and time are thin enough that my wardrobe has not been updated. However that doesn't mean my nails haven't. I'm loving all the fun things people are doing with manicures this year and it seems like inspiration is everywhere. There are no limits to what can be done.
I pulled out a very fall shade that's been sitting in my nail polish bag, unused, since winter and slathered it on as a base. I'm in love with a new matte top coat I just acquired and have been testing it over just about every shade I own. Take a look...
Fun, yeah? But a little tame on it's own. I decided to brighten it up a bit with a gold french tip. That definitely did the trick, but I decided to take it one step further with a gold glitter top coat just to add ultra contrast. Here's one more look at the finished result...

NASA Discovers Planet Orbiting Two Suns
NASA has discovered a Star Wars like planet named Kepler 16b (Kepler is the name of the telescope used in the discovery). This is first circumbinary planet ever discovered, meaning a planet that orbits two stars. Really cool stuff, check out animations and an artists illustration below!

The Argenta Film Series Kicks Off!
We got the news today that the Little Rock Film Festival is about to kick off their brand spankin' new year-round series at the Argenta Community Theater! Starting Monday, Sept. 19th they're going to be screening local, national and international films that you can't get in the theaters! The first event will feature three award-winning short films and their directors will be available for Q&A. When else do you ever get to watch a movie, then ask whatever you want to the people who made it? Should be pretty amazing! Check out the press release we got this morning:
Little Rock Film Festival Kicks off Argenta Film Series
The Little Rock Film Festival (LRFF) and the Argenta Arts Foundation along with the Mitchell, Williams Law Firm announce the kickoff of the Argenta Film Series (AFS) September 19, 2011 at the Argenta Community Theater in North Little Rock. The AFS kickoff reception will begin at 6:00 pm and the film program will begin at 7:00 pm. The Argenta Film Series is a new year-round film series, emphasizing in-depth discussions on the craft of filmmaking, and will showcase indoor and outdoor screenings of local, national and international films. The complete fall and winter line‐up for the AFS will be announced at the opening night event.
John Gaudin of the Argenta Arts Foundation said, “we are excited to add the film series to the growing list of cultural events that are happening everyday in the Argenta Arts District. We are proud to partner with the Little Rock Film Festival in support of the creative and talented Arkansans involved in film.” The inaugural Argenta Film Series event will feature the three top award-winning short films from the 2011 LRFF; Foot Soldier, Pillow and The Orderly. All of the films' directors will be present for a question and answer period following the screenings. The filmmakers will discuss the rapid proliferation of filmmaking in Arkansas, and discuss the feature films each of them are now producing, following the success of their short projects.
The kickoff event, as well as all AFS screenings, will cost $10 at the door. Admission is free for LRFF 2012 Gold pass holders. Tickets are also available online at http://www.littlerockfilmfestival.org/.
The Argenta Film Series continues the expansion of the Little Rock Film Festival into one of the premiere year-round film advocacy organizations in the American South. "The AFS will bring the kind of world class film programming, featured at our flagship event each June, to the Argenta Community theater all year round,”LRFF founder and artistic director, Brent Renaud said. “We fully expect this series to become a must attend for anyone in central Arkansas who loves film and wants to delve deeper into the craft in almost a salon type setting” The series will emphasize in-depth discussion with filmmakers and industry professionals from around the world while also highlighting Arkansas' booming local filmmaking scene.
The Little Rock Film Festival is one of the premiere film advocacy organizations in the American South, promoting the film industry in the state of Arkansas and bringing filmmakers from around the world each June to its flagship event in Little Rock. Current LRFF year round programs include, the 48 hour film project, the Reel Civil Rights Film Festival, and the Argenta Film Series.

Missoni Madness
Can you even buh-lieve all of this hype for Target's *for-a-limited-time-only* Missoni line? I mean have you ever seen so many ladies crazy for chevron in your life?
Does it make you apartment-dwellers want to go out and buy patterned patio furniture? Do you Hawaiian beachbabies want to run out and buy colorful blankets and sweaters? You know, I don't have babies (or plan to for quite. a. while.) but some of the kiddo clothes are just too adorable to pass up! I'm not much of a biker either, but those superfun vintage looking bicycles (complete with basket) make me want to pack a picnic, ride to the nearest park and then frolic around it in some new stripey ballet flats!
If you've tried to visit the website today you know that even Target wasn't prepared for the influx of traffic. Their error message says that they are "suddenly extremely popular" and that they'll "get you in as soon as [they] can!" Guess we'll just have to cross our fingers that some shoppers left some goodies behind to be picked up during a lunchtime Target run!

For Our Editor Friends: Breaking Down a Sequence in The Dark Knight
We're both big fans of Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight (I am more than Mallory). In fact I saw it in the theater 4 times, more than any other movie in my life. However, even with all my love with it, I'm strongly aware that it has flaws (this is extremely shocking to a few people I know). This video below breaks down the chase sequence in the middle of the film when they're moving Harvey Dent.

A few of my favorites things...
Do you all know about polyvore? It's only one of the Internet's best time-wasters ever. (Probably not so much if you're a guy. You should just stick with cracked. Probably.) Let me explain. You know all those wonderful fashion blogs where they have all the wonderful floating outfits? No? Let me show you.

Polyvore makes floating outfit assembly super easy and fun. Essentially it's a database of every cute article of clothing there is. All you have to do is put them together! It even tells you who makes each piece so if you're so in love with your creation that you just HAVE to have it hanging in your closet, you're in luck.

ICYMI: Labor Day Weekend Round Up
40 Year Old 3D Computer Graphics (Pixar, 1972) from Robby Ingebretsen on Vimeo.
That's the very first video created by Pixar from 40 years ago! Kind of impressive!
Now for more computer graphics, here's a new trailer for the multiplayer in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. The game takes place in the relatively near future during World War 3, as serious as that sound, this is potentially going to be the top selling video game of the year, making far more money in it's first day on the market than most films will this year.
Also Today is Freddie Mercury's Birthday and Google turned their homepage into a video tribute. Check it out!
Here's the first poster for Jason Reitman's new film, Young Adult written by Diablo Cody.
